Volunteering

There is no question that our volunteers have and always will be the lifeblood of Lilac’s existence. After all, a civilian crew first worked Lilac's decks and so it is right they should end up getting her back. Her future as a sailing vessel will largely depend on the work of the volunteer force together with paid professionals. We appreciate help in any form that a volunteer can give. The added meaning here is essentially Lilac was a service vessel in its earlier days, and ironically now she needs all the service that we can muster to survive as a fully functional working vessel.

Specifically we are looking for those with skills in the following areas:

  • Marine Electrical Technicians and Engineers

  • Welders, Metal workers andespecially those experienced with ships

  • Plumbers

  • Painters, and Carpenters

  • Restoration Professionals

  • Steam Engineers and Firemen

  • Publicity, Fund raising Professionals and Graphic and Visual artists

But it doesn’t stop there. Our volunteers, who have fair skills or none at all, will get a chance to work along side some that have great skills.  And your efforts and interest are welcome. Training on how to use power tools of all kinds is available, including some knowledge on how a ship like this is special and how she works.

The atmosphere is relaxed, but the work is serious and we work against the clock at all times. We are a group committed to Lilac and her steaming once again, and we hope you are too. So if it sounds like it might be fun, please give us a call or come out on one of our volunteer days. Food, Coffee and drinks while you’re here are on us!  For now, check out our calendar for our next volunteer day.
